Evelyn Barraza, Regional Partnership Manager (she/her/hers)
Playworks SoCal Region, Pico Rivera, CA
Evelyn serves as a Regional Partnership Manager at Playworks, where she leads efforts to create safe and inclusive play environments for students across Southern California. Her journey with Playworks began in 2015 as an AmeriCorps member in Santa Ana, and since then, she has built strong, lasting relationships with school districts and principals throughout the region.
A natural leader and strategic thinker, Evelyn is recognized for her ability to manage teams with empathy and adaptability while ensuring all voices are heard in the decision-making process. She is deeply committed to creating meaningful opportunities for youth and advancing equitable, inclusive spaces where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

Shanyce has dedicated her career to supporting children and youth, a passion that began during her own teenage years. Starting her career working on the West Side of San Bernardino, she witnessed firsthand the limited opportunities available to many young people. She felt called to create pathways for growth and possibility.
As the Youth Ministry Director at 16th Street SDA Church, Shanyce leads programs that empower young people to learn, grow, and pursue goals beyond the limits they may see around them. Her work is rooted in the belief that with encouragement, hard work, and dedication, every young person can achieve their dreams.

Alyson Bryant, Associate Executive Director (she/her/hers)

Raised in Long Beach, Alyson witnessed firsthand the impact of gang violence on her friends and classmates, experiences that shaped her deep commitment to supporting at-risk youth and strengthening her community. Motivated by these early experiences, she began her work with young people as a Youth Mentor with the California Conference for Equality and Justice, focusing on youth in schools and detention centers across Long Beach.
In 2013, Alyson began her career with the YMCA, quickly expanding her role and responsibilities. Now serving as the Director of Training and Development, she leads with passion and purpose, creating meaningful learning experiences that strengthen program quality and empower staff to grow as confident, compassionate leaders. Her work is rooted in the belief that investing in those who serve youth builds stronger communities and brighter futures. She continues to advocate for all young people with a mission to motivate, inspire, and empower the next generation to reach their fullest potential.

Sunny Chang, Senior Youth Programs Manager (she/her/hers)

Sunny Chang is the Senior Youth Programs Manager for Outdoor Outreach. A graduate of UC Santa Cruz, with a double major in Sociology and Experiential Education/Wilderness Therapy, Sunny has been a professional guide and instructor for youth and adults through various companies and non-profit organizations such as REI, Northeastern Center for Change, Camp Highland Outdoor Science School, and Outdoor Outreach, for the last 28 years. Over the years and across different roles, Sunny has continued to find joy in supporting youth in developing meaningful connections to nature, their community, peers, and themselves.

With over 30 years of experience in the expanded learning field, Kristen transformed a summer job into a lifelong mission to uplift youth and empower educators. Her journey began at the Boys and Girls Club of Escondido and continued with the YMCA of San Diego County and several other agencies across the region before taking on her current role as Program Manager with Harmonium Inc. in San Diego. She has remained deeply committed to professional development, regulatory excellence, and building strong partnerships with families, school leaders, and community stakeholders.
A certified CalSAC trainer, Kristen holds a B.A. in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University. She continues to bring passion and purpose to her work, helping to strengthen programs that support both staff and students in meaningful, lasting ways.

Tia Gregory, Before/After School Program Director (she/her/hers)
As the proud daughter of a veteran, Tia grew up living in cities across the United States, an experience that taught her resilience and the ability to see the best in every situation. Her lifelong passion for working with children has shaped her career, culminating in her most recent role as Before/After School Program Director.
In this position, Tia is committed to creating a program where every student feels safe, welcomed, and excited to attend each day. Guided by positive feedback from staff and families, she continues to refine and strengthen her program to offer the highest quality experience for the youth she serves.
Justin Griffin, Owner (he/him/his)Justin is a Captain, leader, mentor, and coach with a lifelong passion for basketball and youth development. A professional athlete for over 10 years, he played internationally in Germany, Romania, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, concluding his career as team captain and league champion of Soles de Mexicali.
Justin holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Hawaii, Hilo, where he was recognized as Male Athlete of the Year and Big Island Athlete of the Year. Today, he leads Pure Joy Enrichment, Inc., bringing his experience and leadership to inspire and guide the next generation.

Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Tyler holds a B.A. in Sociology and an M.Ed. She spent over a decade teaching high school in Chicago and Seattle, leading initiatives in social-emotional learning and restorative justice practices. Her background in education reflects a deep commitment to creating inclusive, supportive environments where students can learn, grow, and lead.
Now serving as the Director of Learning and Engagement at Outside the Lens, Tyler focuses on creative media arts programs, workforce development, and building strategic partnerships. She also serves on the San Diego Unified School District’s VAPA Advisory Council. Dana Lingard, Director of Field Marketing (she/her/hers)Based in San Diego, Dana brings over 20 years of marketing and event planning experience. As the Director of Field Marketing for Elevo, she leads initiatives that empower program leaders, foster industry collaboration, and strengthen school communities.
Outside of work, Dana serves on the boards of youth football and rugby organizations and enjoys reading, traveling, and spending quality time with her husband and two sons.
Virginia "Ginny" Mebane, Teacher Specialist - Expanded Learning Programs (she/her/hers)
TLC Expanded Learning, Pomona Unified, Pomona, CA
Virginia, originally from Inglewood, California, has dedicated over 35 years to out-of-school programs and education. She began her work with youth at the age of 14 as a summer youth leader at Centinela Day Camp, inspired by mentors, including her mother, who instilled a passion for serving her community.
While raising a family and working part-time, Virginia earned a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of La Verne. After 10 years of teaching, she returned to her true passion, expanded learning, and now supports 26 after-school program sites within the Pomona Unified School District.

Anneliese Morgan is a leadership and business development professional with 10+ years of experience in partnerships, operations, event planning, team leadership, and staff development. She has led revenue growth, built strong relationships with schools, businesses, and community partners, and supported onboarding, training, and succession planning. Anneliese is currently pursuing a DBA in organizational leadership and holds a master’s degree in management and leadership. She began her career in expanded learning as a Site Coordinator and has held several impactful roles, including Quality Assurance Coach/Trainer, Program Development Specialist for Older Youth, Director of Program Operations, and Learning and Development Manager and Lead. Growing up in the district, she participated in before- and after-school programs, which inspired her lifelong commitment to supporting youth.
LynnMarie is passionate about exploring new opportunities and making a positive impact in the lives of others. Outside of work, she enjoys volunteering with Girl Scouts, traveling, reading, hiking, and spending time with family and friends, embracing life as an ongoing adventure.

Nicolette Hart, BOOST Volunteer (she/her/hers) Nicolette recently began her journey in the out-of-school time field and deeply values the dedication of those who work with youth. As a first-time volunteer at the 2024 BOOST Conference, she was inspired by the energy and impact of the event and is excited to continue contributing to BOOST 2025 and beyond.
A proud dog mom to her French Bulldog, Warner, Nicolette finds joy in the love and connection he brings to her life and others. She is currently on a journey of self-discovery, seeking her purpose while building a future centered on supporting youth and their communities.
Henry Rodriguez, Program Director (he/him/his)

Henry Rodriguez is a Program Director in expanded learning with a background in community building and creating supportive environments. His experience includes planning and coordinating events that bring together students, families, and community partners to strengthen engagement and connection. He focuses on building meaningful relationships and fostering a positive culture where collaboration, respect, and support are central to daily practice. Becky Shultz recently retired after more than 23 years in the out-of-school-time field. She earned a Master’s degree in Counseling and a P.P.S. credential from California State University, Long Beach, in 2003. Her career includes 18 years as a school counselor and 23 years as the Director of Expanded Learning for the Whittier City School District.
Becky has served on numerous committees and boards, including Helpline Youth Counseling, LACOE Group Advisory Group, Region 11 Advisory Committee, Activate Whittier, and the Whittier Homeless Student Coalition. A member of the BOOST Leadership Team since 2010, she was honored as the 2022 BOOST OSTI Award winner.

James Stephens, Substitute Teacher (he/him/his)

James has dedicated his career to the out-of-school time field, beginning in 1978. He holds undergraduate degrees in Child Development and Business, as well as a master’s in Education. James has been involved with the BOOST Conference since 2007 and continues to support its mission of uplifting the field.
After more than 35 years in education, James “retired,” though he remains active as a substitute teacher in San Diego. He is the proud father of two grown children, Waverly and Spencer, and values the lifelong connections he’s built through his work with youth.

With over 25 years of experience in educational programs, Serjio specializes in designing, implementing, and evaluating strategies that enhance student, employee, and community engagement within institutions and organizations. Since joining the OST field in 2023, he has brought his expertise in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) to optimize learning and workplace environments where pluralism is valued and amplified.
Serjio holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from Oberlin College and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Outside of work, he enjoys Latine/x/a/o social dancing, cheering on Chicago sports teams (Da Bears!), and hosteling in cities around the world.

Jerome is an Assistant General Manager with Wolfgang Puck Catering, serving Apple in Los Angeles. He began volunteering with BOOST in 2024 and brings a strong commitment to service and community. With a background in youth development, Jerome has long been dedicated to supporting initiatives that empower educators and create meaningful experiences for others.
He is proud to contribute to an event as impactful as BOOST and is passionate about helping ensure positive experiences for all attendees. Outside of work, Jerome attends church with his partner, Shanyce, and enjoys lending a hand to causes that make a difference.

Eddie Garcia has dedicated more than 33 years to the field of education and currently serves as the Executive Director of Programs at Think Together. In this role, he oversees initiatives designed to support the academic, behavioral, social, and emotional growth of students - helping them reach their fullest potential.
Throughout his career, Eddie has held various administrative leadership roles focused on developing and implementing programs that create safe and engaging environments where students can explore academics, the arts, physical fitness, and youth development.
A proud graduate of California State University, Dominguez Hills, Eddie later earned his Master’s in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach. He is a firm believer in the transformative power of education and is passionate about providing professional development opportunities that foster collaboration and growth amongst educators across Southern California.

Aida Hairston, Business Support Assistant
San Diego County Office of Education, San Diego, CA
Aida is the Business Support Assistant with the Whole Child Community Design Department at San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE). She joined SDCOE in 1996 as a student worker and has supported various departments and teams ever since. In 2015, she was named SDCOE Employee of the Year. Aida holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice and a master’s degree in human behavior.
Aida has proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Reserves for over 27 years, including a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Outside of work, she is a dedicated mom to George Aidan and Savannah Georgia and enjoys volunteering at their school. She loves traveling and has visited more than nine countries, looking forward to continuing these adventures with her husband and children.

Shantelle Johnson, Vice President of Events (she/her/hers)
California Building Industry Association (CBIA), San Diego, CA
Shantelle is a seasoned marketing and communications leader with over 20 years of experience shaping strategy, brand development, and audience engagement for events, media, and mission-driven organizations. She has led impactful marketing efforts for national conferences, nonprofits, and higher education, helping transform complex ideas into stories that inspire action. Her past roles include leadership positions at Eyes On Eyecare and Freeman, where she built integrated campaigns that elevated visibility and strengthened community connection.
Most recently, Shantelle joined the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) as Vice President of Events, where she oversees PCBC—one of California’s leading homebuilding conferences—and guides its strategic vision, audience growth, and overall event experience. In this role, she brings creativity, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to innovation in the built environment.
Christine Lafontant, Regional Manager (she/her/hers)
County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation, San Diego, CA
Christine is a Region Manager for the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation, where she oversees park facilities, including Waterfront Park—one of the county’s premier outdoor event venues. She coordinates large-scale community events such as festivals and the countywide Movies in the Park series, and previously managed administrative and fiscal operations for multiple community and teen centers. Throughout her career, Christine has organized major events, including health fairs and youth diversion programs, such as the Outdoor Adventure Program for at-risk and foster youth.
With over 20 years of experience in recreation and youth programming, Christine holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston College. She is a Certified Festival and Events Associate, accredited by both the International Festivals and Events Association and the National Recreation and Parks Association. She has served as a consultant and trainer for over 300 after-school programs across San Diego County and spent two years in the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, where she developed her passion for service learning and community engagement.
Jacob Lingard, BOOST Volunteer (he/him/his)

Jacob is a lifelong San Diegan with a career rooted in construction and property management. Known for his hands-on approach and can-do attitude, he takes pride in being able to build and fix just about anything. His work reflects a strong commitment to craftsmanship, reliability, and problem-solving.
A devoted father of two, Jacob enjoys spending quality time with his sons, with one currently attending the University of San Francisco and the other in high school. When he’s not working, you can find him camping, watching rugby, or tinkering in the garage. He’s happiest when surrounded by family, making memories, and embracing life’s everyday adventures.
Willie Mebane, Retired Firefighter/Current Realtor (he/him/his)

With deep roots in the Inglewood and Los Angeles communities, Willie brings a lifelong dedication to service and community building to his work as a real estate agent. Before beginning his career in the Fire Department, he found his passion for helping others while working in after-school programs with the City of Inglewood. This experience shaped his understanding of what home, connection, and belonging truly mean.
Willie’s commitment to giving back continues through his volunteer work with organizations like BOOST, where he has served since 2023 as an on-site volunteer and a valued member of the BOOST Leadership Team. Whether helping a first-time homebuyer or lending a hand to support youth professionals, Willie approaches every opportunity with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to community.
Caitlyn Monaco, CARES Program Lead Teacher (she/her/hers)
Orange Unified School District, Orange, CA
Born in New York and raised in California, Caitlyn brings over 20 years of experience with the Orange Unified School District, where her enthusiasm, warmth, and dedication to children have helped her grow into a valued leader. Her passion for supporting youth development and building community connections led her to the BOOST Conference, where she immediately connected with its uplifting atmosphere and collaborative spirit.
Currently pursuing her Associate’s Degrees in Childhood Education and Biological Sciences, Caitlyn continues to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring new places, embarking on creative (and sometimes messy) adventures, watching great movies, and taking well-deserved naps. Darlene Mosher, Retired/Consultant (she/her/hers)
Rancho Mirage, CA
With over 20 years of experience in the educational field, Darlene has dedicated her career to supporting students, educators, and afterschool programs. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Cal State Fullerton in 1982 and spent 18 years working as an accountant while raising her two daughters. Inspired to make a difference in education, she returned to school to earn both her single-subject math and multiple-subject teaching credentials, as well as a Master’s degree in Education from the University of La Verne. In 2005, she further advanced her career by earning her Administrative Credential from Cal Poly Pomona.
From 2009 to 2021, Darlene served as the Afterschool Program Administrator for Pomona Unified School District, overseeing programs at 28 school sites and supporting approximately 150 staff members and 2,500 students daily. Since retiring in 2021, she continues to give back through volunteer work and enjoys spending her time traveling, relaxing, and making memories with family and friends.

Michael Mosher, Retired/Consultant (he/him/his)

After a 37-year career in sales and marketing with Nestlé SA, the world’s largest multinational food and beverage company, Mike retired following an accomplished tenure marked by progressive leadership roles. During his time with the company, he held national responsibilities within the U.S.. He contributed to several international projects, earning recognition for his ability to drive results through collaboration and innovation.
Following retirement, Mike joined Fullerton College as an Adjunct Professor, where he teaches business courses both on campus and remotely. He holds a B.A. in Marketing from Cal State Fullerton and an MBA from the University of La Verne. Known for his leadership and people-centered approach, Mike is passionate about coaching and developing others, energizing teams, and influencing with integrity, insight, and courage.
Dave Palmer, Founder/Chief Dunker (he/him/his)

For over a decade, Dave has helped school districts, nonprofits, and institutions develop strategic marketing and communication campaigns that strengthen engagement and build community trust. His work has included crafting outreach initiatives to boost participation in school nutrition programs and helping districts take a more proactive approach to their messaging.
At BOOST, Dave has been an integral part of the team since 2010, supporting exhibitors and ensuring that everything runs smoothly in the exhibit hall. Known for his reliability and good humor, he’s also the one behind the wheel of the big rental truck driving to and from San Diego—something he does out of love and respect for Tia and the BOOST crew.
ElizaBeth Parker Phillips, Director of Child Development (she/her/hers)

With over 25 years of experience in childcare and recreation, ElizaBeth Parker Phillips has dedicated her career to creating safe, engaging, and high-quality programs for children and their families. Her extensive expertise spans the full spectrum of programming, including infant/toddler through preschool care, school-age programs, inclusive teen services, day camps, and specialized initiatives like court waiting room programs. She loves sharing her experiences and supporting staff development. Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to ensuring every child has access to enriching experiences that support their growth and development.
Outside of work, ElizaBeth is a running enthusiast, candy connoisseur, and collector of cats. She is also a proud mom to two college kids and married to her best friend and sparring partner—a relationship that began, appropriately enough, at a karate studio.

Drew Wilson, Planning Manager (he/him/his)
City of Fresno, Fresno, CA
Drew is the Planning Manager for the City of Fresno's Department of Transportation, where he leads the Fresno Area Express Planning Division. With over a decade of experience in both the public and private sectors, Drew is a trained city planner focused on creating systems and spaces that reflect the needs of the communities they serve. His approach combines long-range visioning with a strong commitment to community building and equity.
Born and raised in Fresno, Drew is passionate about giving back to the city that shaped him. As a coach for Palm and Shields Little League, he continues to mentor young athletes and support the community-first program he helped revive—one that became the first in the nation to partner with a local minor league baseball team, the Fresno Grizzlies. Whether at work or on the field, Drew is dedicated to fostering environments where people—especially children—can thrive, connect, and feel a sense of belonging.

Mary Jo Ginty, Region 11 Lead 
Los Angeles County Office of Education, Downey, CA
Mary Jo Ginty is the former Regional Lead/Program Coordinator at the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) After School Technical Assistance Unit. This Unit provides staff training and development, consultation, and technical assistance services to the 1300+ school sites that support after school programs funded through the After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) and/or 21st Century Community Learning Center grants. Over 130,000 students participate in these programs which also provide over 10,000 employment opportunities in the county. Ms. Ginty directed and oversaw after school programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She experienced the power of change that these programs brought to students and their families. Her professional experiences over the past years include: Owner of a successful consulting firm, high school teacher, high school principal, college professor, lobbyist, and community organizer. She holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from UCLA and a Bachelors's Degree in Business and Social Welfare Administration from Ursuline College. Her spare time is spent enjoying her family, leading a Junior Girl Scout troop, music, and cooking in all forms, and sitting on the Board of Directors of her 10-year-old daughter’s school. Mary Jo Ginty believed that after school programs have the potential to assist youth to gain the skill sets, tools, and knowledge and have the experiences necessary to make a life for themselves and their families.
